Latin, Gelsemium
Eng., Gelsemium. Synonyms, Yellow Jasmine (or Jassamine), Carolina Jasmine. The dried rhizome and roots of Gelsemium sempervirens.
1/2 grain (0.03 Gnu).
Eng., Extract of Gelsemium. A powder representing about 4 times the strength of the drug.
1/6 grain (0.01 Gm.).
Eng., Fluidextract of Gelsemium.
1/2 minim (0.3 mil).
Eng., Tincture of Gelsemium. Represents 10 per cent.of the drug.
4 minims (0.25 mil).
Classed as a nervine, sedative, antispasmodic, antiperiodic.
Recommended for headache, migraine, neuralgia, dysmenorrhea, asthma, whooping-cough, chorea, laryngismus stridulus, etc.
It is usually recommended in the f6rm of the tincture to be prescribed alone. Not often employed.
