Eng., Wild Cherry. The bark of Prunus serotina.

Principal Constituents

Amygdalin (which yields with water. hydrocyanic acid, etc.), tannic acid.

Average Dose

30 grains (2 Gm.).

Official Preparation.

Syrupus Pruni Virginianae

Eng., Syrup of Wild Cherry. Represents 15 per cent. of the drug.

Average Dose

1 fluidrachm (4 mils).

Therapeutic Action

Bitter tonic and sedative.

Uses

Frequently used in cough preparations and in tonics.

Administration

The syrup is the preparation most frequently used. It is seldom prescribed alone, but is used as a vehicle, particularly for tonic and expectorant preparations.
