Latin, Tragacantha
Eng., Tragacanth. Synonym, Gum Traga-canth. The spontaneously dried, gummy exudation from the stems of Astragalus gummifer or from other Asiatic species of Astragalus.
Eng., Mucilage of Tragacanth. Contains 6 per cent. of the drug. Dose.-Ad lib.
Principally used to render aqueous solutions of insoluble drugs sufficiently thick so that when the bottle is shaken the insoluble matter will remain suspended long enough to admit of a dose being poured.
