Hepatic Aloe, the inspissated juice of the common aloe, a native of Barbadoes, and other West India Islands. Its smell is much stronger, and more disagreeable, than the Socotrine aloes; the taste is uncommonly bitter and nauseous. The best hepatic aloe comes from the island of Barbadoes, in large gourd-shells ; an inferior sort, which is in general soft and clammy, is imported in casks.
