Figure 48. Working Detail of Round Jersey Loop Rug.

Procedure

Take one loop and twist it around as in the second illustration of the first photograph on this page. Fold this again as in the third illustration in the same picture, thus making a circle composed of four strands. This is the center loop of the round rug. Draw a loop through the center circle as shown in the fourth illustration. Place six more loops through the center one as shown in the first illustration of the second photograph. For the sake of photographic clarity, the last loop used is of a different color. Working from right to left, draw loop 2 through loop 1 as is shown in the second illustration of the same photograph. Loop 3 goes through loop 2; loop 4 goes through loop 3. Continue in this manner to complete row one.

2. ;In order to increase, take two loops slipping them through the top chain of the first stitch of the row below, pulling one through the other from right to left as before. Repeat, using two loops in each of the next six stitches. This makes a total of fourteen stitches completing row two. See the third illustration of the second photograph.

3. ;Continue working around the rug using single loops in each stitch except where an increase (two loops in a stitch) is required to keep the rug flat. For the first ten rows it will be necessary to increase every fourth to sixth stitch, and about every seventh to tenth stitch thereafter. Do not increase directly over an increase of the row below because then the rug will not be a true circle but will have points instead. Change colors as desired at the end of a complete round only.

4. ;When the project is the desired size, cut one loop of the same color as the last round, go through the last stitch made, and with the two ends, weave in and out a few stitches. Tie securely with three tight knots, trim off the ends, and conceal the knot in the weaving.
