The Twaddell hydrometer is used by many manufacturers. The readings may be converted into specific gravity from this formula

Sp. gr = 100 + .5N / 100---------------

N is the Twaddell reading.

Example. - Change 84° into specific gravity reading.

Sp. gr. = 100 + 42 / 100 = 142 / 100------- = 1.42
