1 cup brown sugar
1/2 cup butter
1 1/2 cups hot apple sauce ( unsweetened) into which put 1 scant teaspoonful soda, mash.
1/2 teaspoonful each of cloves and salt 1 teaspoonful cinnamon 1 egg (may be omitted) 1 cup chopped dates and raisins mixed with 2 cups flour 1 teaspoonful vanilla
If liked 1/2 cup of chopped nuts may be added.
Bake in two layers, and put together with frosting or jelly. Mrs. A. eacrett,

2 cups hot appple sauce
2 teaspoons soda
1 teaspoon salt

1/3 cup shortening
1 cup raisins
1 cud stoned dates
1/2 pound chopped citron 1 teaspoon cinnamon 1 teaspoon cloves
1 teaspoon allspice
2 teaspoons baking powder in flour
Enough flour for rather thick batter.
Mix in the order given, and bake one hour. Will keep a long time. Mrs. G. A. Shope,
