Pericar'dium. Serous membrane surrounding the heart.

Perichon'drium. Fibrous membrane covering cartilage.

Perios'teum. Fibrous membrane covering bone.

Periph'eral. From the centre towards the circumference.

Peristal'tic. Worm-like movement of the intestinal tube.

Peritone'um. Serous membrane that surrounds the abdominal viscera and lines the cavity.

Perone'al. Muscles or vessels in relation to the fibula.

Pétrissage (pa-tris-sahzh). Kneading.

Phalan'ges. Bones of fingers and toes placed in rows, like a phalanx of soldiers.

Phar'ynx. The cavity at the back of the soft palate.

Phren'ic. Pertaining to the diaphragm.

Pi'a ma'ter. Tender or pious mother, inner covering of the brain and spinal cord.

Plan'tar. Pertaining to the sole of the foot.

Plas'ma. The fluid part of the blood.

Pleu'ra. Serous membrane surrounding the lungs.

Pneu'mo'gastric. Pertaining to the lungs and stomach.

Pons Varo'lii. Bridge of Varolius, nerve fibres connecting the different parts of the brain.

Poplite'al. Pertaining to the ham.

Posti'cus. Posterior.

Pott's fracture. Fracture of lower end of fibula with dislocation of bones of the foot.

Pro'teids. Albuminoid constituents of the body.

Pro'toplasm. Primitive organic cell-matter.

Pter'ygoid. Like a wing, muscles of the jaw.

Pty'alin. A ferment of saliva.

Pul'monary. Relating to the lungs.

Pylo'rus. A gate or entrance, lower orifice of the stomach.

Pyram'idalis. Like a pyramid, a muscle of the abdomen.

Quadri'ceps. Four extensor muscles of the leg.

Ra'dius. A rod, the spoke of a wheel, a bone of the forearm.

Ra'mus. A branch.

Rectum. Lower portion of large intestine.

Rec'tus. Straight, a muscle of the abdomen and of the thigh.

Re'nal. Pertaining to the kidneys.

Rhom'boid. A figure whose sides and angles are equal, muscles of the back.

Rhythm. A measured movement.
