A strong first phalanx of the thumb, a long straight Line of Head and a good Mount of Jupiter will triumph over this tendency. Hundreds of times I have found it in the Left Hand, and yet, in the Right Hand, the angle was formed so clear and open as to secure full freedom of thought and action.

Joined with the Line of Life, rising toward the Line of Heart, then coming down and resuming its normal position - Blind or fatal passion; long engagement (or entanglement) never terminating in marriage.

This will be due to a mixture of meanness (narrow Quadrangle) and physical passion.

Connected, at the Start, with the Line of Life and the Line of Heart - Sudden death.

The Hand Of Jules Gerard, The Famous Lion Killer

A Satur-nian type, but fortified by distinct Martian markings and brightened by a strong Mount of the Sun crossed by a deep vertical line. The Lines of Heart and Head joined at the start on the Line of Life, the latter broken at 35 (in one hand), with the fragments overlaying each other. The Line; of Head deeply forked at the termination. A high Plain of Mars. Square tipped and smooth fingers, the third finger the same length as the second. Medium thumb with good second phalanx. A cross in the Quadrangle touching the Line of the Sun.

"Jules Gerard, an officer in the French Army in Africa, was famous as the greatest lion-killer that lived in this century. He was fond of desert life and religiously inclined. He was bold to excess, generally hunting the lion single-handed, and yet he was shrewd in his methods and reasoned out to a fine point his most foolhardy expeditions. He almost succumbed to a terrible and prolonged attack of African fever; and finally died a violent death, being drowned in Algeria."

Starting from the Line of Life under the Mount of Saturn - Neglected education and late development of the brain. With the same start, if the Lines of Life and Heart are short - Danger of sudden death.

Losing itself into a Line of Heart that has come straight from the Mount of Jupiter - Unexpected happiness; love for one only.

I am afraid such a complete surrender might prove extremely dangerous, especially in a woman. So I consider this happiness to be as fragile and unreliable as it will be complete for a short time. Under the circumstances it is really something of a disaster.

The Line and the Line of Life closely connected with the Line of the Sun in both hands, with large hands and the first angle very narrow - Extreme sensitiveness.

Joined with the Line of Heart under the Mount of Saturn - Fatal events, due to the surrender of reason to emotion.

Joined with the Line of Liver, with a poor Line of Fate, many bars crossing the Line of Life and with an exaggerate Mount of Jupiter - Tendency to suicide.

The poor Line of Liver indicates gloomy thoughts; the bars on the Line of

Life, constant indispositions; the poor Line of Fate, a succession of misfortunes; the high Mount of Jupiter, a pride that can stand no reverses; all of these combined have led many a man to commit felo de se.

Joined with the Line of Liver, the Line of Life being forked at the start - Drain disease.

This will be of the melancholia character.

Forming a clear cross with the Line of Liver on the mount of the Moon - Diseased imagination.

This cross can only be formed by the Line of Head drooping greatly and the Line of Liver running comparatively close to the Peicussion; each of these indications, taken by itself, is sufficient to explain the reading.

Not joined with the Line of Life at the start, but connected by minor line? or branches - Evil temper, uneven disposition. In a good hand - Brusquerie.

Not joined with the Line of Life at the start, but connected with it by a cross- - Domestic troubles of a serious nature, in the family of the subject, who suffers the consequences of these quarrels without being an actor in them, on account of his age.

Often read correctly as a family law suit that ruined the subject's prospects in his infancy.

Lines from the base of the Mount of Venus cutting the Line of Life and the Line - Pecuni-ary difficulties due to one's family.

Joined to the Line of Heart by a line that loses itself in the Line of Heart - Fatal infatuation. Worse if the Line is wavy. Lines rising from the Line to the Line of Heart without actually cutting the latter - The subject's life is influenced by others, generally through friendships with people of the same sex.

A line toward the termination of the Line rising to the Line of Heart anil being absorbed therein - Affection mastering reason.

The Line and the Lines of Life, Heart and Union cut by a line starting from the Mount of Venus - Trouble connected with marriage or deep attachment for person of another sex.
