A. officinalis: stem 2-3 feet high, covered thoughout with soft, velvety pubescence; leaves soft on both sides, cordate or ovate, 3-5-lobed; peduncles axillary, many-flowered, shorter than the leaves; flowers pale rose. - Marsh Mallow. - Marshes near the sea. Fl. August, September.
