* Abraham Lincoln died from the effects of a pistol-shot, fired by John Wilkes Booth, at Ford's Theatre, Washington, on the evening of April 14, 1865. He lived ten hours, and died the next morning.
† President Garfield was shot by Charles J. Guiteau, at Washington, July 2, 1881, and died at Long Branch, N. J., Sept. 19, 1881. For this crime, Guiteau was hanged at Washington, D. C, June 30, 1882.
