Use ordinary furniture polish on the wood of the furniture, and place a saucer full of strong ammonia below the sofa and chairs from time to time. As a rule, a dry room is best for furniture, and therefore a fire should be lighted often. It will prevent the damp settling upon the furniture and carpets, and will tend to keep out insects. Washing the floors with a carbolic soap will also be found of great value.
