First coat the floor with a solution of patent knotting, made by adding i gal. of methylated spirit to each gallon of knotting. Place near the fire for half an hour -, shake well before using. One hour after applying the first coat, glasspaper slightly; then give another coat. Now take some crude paraffin or paraffin wax and thin with turps; put this on with a brush. Now take a 14lb. polishing iron, which has a long handle like a sweeping"brush, the iron working on a swivel, heat it on a coke fire, then work it rapidly to and fro over the flooring. Do a small piece of flooring only at one time.
