A good polishing paste for brown boots can be made with 20 fluid oz. of good malt vinegar, 10 fluid oz. of filtered water, 2 oz. of good glue, 1 dr. of soft soap, and 1 dr. of isinglass. Colour with annatto or turmeric to the shade required. First mix the water and vinegar, then dissolve the glue in the fluid by gently heating it •, add colouring and other ingredients, and boil from ten to fifteen minutes. When the mixture has been strained thoroughly, it is stored in jars until required for use. To use this composition, lay it on with a clean sponge, and polish with a soft rag or flannel.
