If the article is unpolished, it may he stained with one pennyworth of burnt sienna ground in water. Mix with stale beer, and brush well over, wiping off the surplus with rag; two coats may be given. When quite dry, rub smooth and coat with several applications of spirit varnish. The colour may be enriched, by the addition of a penny worth of Bismarck brown to 1 pt. of varnish applied with a camel-hair brush.
