A term including a considerable range of mineral substances, which burn with flame in the open air. They vary, in consistency, from a thin liquid to a solid; but the solids are for the most part liquifiable at a moderate heat. It also forms a component part of various substances, as jet, amber, and all the varieties of pit-coal.
