The measuring of lengths and distances, both accessible and inaccessible. Accessible distances are measured by the application of some lineal measure, as a foot, a chain, etc. Inaccessible distances are measured by taking angles, etc. by means of proper instruments; such as the circum-ferentor, quadrant, and theodolite.
