Question 455. - We are in the habit of making our deposits in local banks the first thing in the morning after the bank is opened. After our deposit is made we receive a cheque for a large amount, $5,000, which we send for deposit. The bank refuses the cheque, saying that it accepts but one deposit a day. Can we force the bank to accept such deposit? If not, can we ask for a settlement the next day even if we have settled with the said bank the previous day?
Answer. - The local arrangement between banks regarding deposits and settlements would govern, but the only legal obligation upon the drawee bank is either to decline to cash the cheque on presentation or decline to honour it; it could not be forced to accept a deposit.
