S. Virgaurea: stems erect, stiff, nearly simple, 1/2-2 feet high; leaves obovate, stalked, those of the stem oblong or lanceolate; flower-heads crowded in a narrow-oblong terminal panicle, with a spreading ray of 10-12 bright yellow florets. - Woods. Fl. July to September.
