The flowers of this species are densely whorled in a long panicle. The valves have 2 or 3 pointed, long bristles on each side. The "grain" becomes golden in color. Stem stout, 1 to 3 feet high, sometimes creeping, very leafy. A maritime plant, found also in the interior.
