Large Purple Gerardia.
Gerardia purpurea. Figwort Family. Aug. - Sept.
Found in low fields, moist, sandy soil. Massachusetts to Florida and Texas near the coast, westward along the Great Lakes to Wisconsin.
Purplish, magenta to whitish, cup-shaped, with 5 flaring lobes, downy.
Opposite, small, narrow. Plant stem somewhat angled, with spreading branches.
