From Mrs. C. H. Slack
One pint warm milk, with half a teacupful butter melted in the milk, 2 eggs, 1 cupful sugar, salt, 1/2 yeast cake, 2 teaspoonfuls vanilla. Mix with flour enough to make a stiff sponge. Mix at night and in the morning mould out. Must be very light. After they are baked, wet with milk and brown sugar over the top.

Two cupfuls white meal. Scald with boiling water, add a little salt and beat until it cools. Stir in a couple of beaten eggs and drop a tablespoonful at a time into boiling lard.
