1/2 cup of sugar.
1/2 cup of butter.
1/2 cup of best molasses.
1/2 cup of sour milk.
1/2 pound of eggs.
1/2 pound of flour, or enough for good batter.
1/2 coffee-cup of raisins, seeded and halved.
1/2 table-spoonful ginger.
1/2 teaspoonful cinnamon.
1/2 dessert- spoonful soda, dissolved in hot water.
Cream butter, sugar, molasses and spices. Beat thoroughly before adding yolks and milk. Put in flour and whites alternately, then the soda-water. Mix well, and stir in the fruit dredged with flour.
Bake in one card or loaf.
