They have an oatmeal-coconut crust and rich date filling. Ready in a jiffy with Betty Crocker Date Bar Mix.



Heat oven to 350°.

Grease an 8-inch square pan.

Put in mixing bowl

Set bowl in pan of hot water and heat to melt chocolate.

Take from heat and beat in

Then mix in

2 squares unsweetened chocolate (2 ounces)

1/3 cup shortening

1 cup sugar

2 eggs

3/4 cup sifted Gold Medal Flour

V2 teaspoon baking powder

1/2 teaspoon salt

1/2 cup chopped nuts

Spread in pan.

Bake 30 to 35 minutes, only until a toothpick stuck in center comes out clean. Cool in pan, and cut in squares.

Makes 16 2-inch squares.
