5 well-beaten eggs 2 cups sugar 1 2/3 cups sour milk 1/3 cup shortening 2 teaspoons salt
1 1/4 quarts barley flour 1 1/4 quarts pastry flour 2 1/2 teaspoons soda 1 tbspn. baking powder 1 teaspoon cinnamon
Add sugar, milk, and shortening to eggs. Mix and sift flour with remaining ingredients, and add to first mixture; chill. Toss on floured board; pat and roll into sheet one-half inch in thickness, but be careful not to work more flour into dough. Shape with doughnut cutter, dipped in flour each time of using. Fry in deep fat, drain on paper. Roll in sugar.
