Vanilla Wafers

One-half cup of butter, one cup of powdered sugar, one-half cup of milk, one teaspoonful of vanilla, two cups of sifted pastry flour. Cream the butter, add the sugar gradually and cream until very light, add flavoring, then the milk and flour alternately, beat vigorously for a minute. Spread thinly with a spatula on the inverted bottoms of baking pans, which should be greased with melted butter and quite cold. Bake in a moderate oven, until a very delicate brown. Take from the oven, cut into squares, quickly remove and roll on the tin, into cork-shaped rolls. If they become brittle before all are rolled, return to the oven a moment until soft again.

Almond Wafers

Make and spread same as vanilla wafers, sprinkle chopped, blanched almonds over the surface. Roll same as vanilla wafers.
