1/2 pound bacon, cut in cubes. Fry till brown with two green peppers "done to a turn." Add one can tomatoes, one can red kidney beans. Simmer over slow fire one-half hour. Serve with one-half cup grated cheese poured over stew just before placing on table.
1 pound ham, 1 pound beef ground together
1 cup bread crumbs
1/4 cup onions chopped fine
1/2 teaspoon salt Pepper to taste 1 medium size, can of to matoes
Beat the eggs well, mix in the bread crumbs and onions and then put this mixture with the ground meat; add salt and pepper. Mix well, and form into a loaf. Bake in a moderate oven about two hours. Use a shallow pan and one large enough to add the can of tomatoes. About one-half hour before the loaf is finished, add the can of tomatoes. When loaf is done, thicken the tomato juice with a flour-water mixture to make tomato gravy.
1 lb. round steak
1 lb. pork shoulder
3 or 4 salted crackers
Salt and pepper to taste
1/2 teaspoon ground clovesss
Grind steak, pork, onion and crackers. Add unbeaten egg, salt, pepper and cloves. Mix well; shape into loaf; put in casserole. Bake in slow oven 1 1/2 hours.
