We have given our opinion in these pages, that the sparrow does not injure fruit buds. This was the result of our own observations in connection with such evidence as we could gather from other sources. It is but proper to note that the editor of the Gardeners' Chronicle, whose opportunity for observation is much better than any one's here, is of opinion that they do eat buds. He speaks of it as a well ascertained fact that '"sparrows and bullfinches injure fruit buds to a serious extent, even to the destruction of the crop sometimes."
