Under this name the Gardener s Chronicle figures and describes a new spruce, named as above by Dr. Panac, from the mountains of Servia, - Omorika, the native name, having been retained for the species. It looks so much like our P. nigra, the true black spruce, and the description also tallies so nearly, that only for the knowledge that the Editor of the Gardener s Chronicle is one of the highest authorities on conifers, we should have been inclined to extend the geographical area of the black spruce, rather than make a new species. Dr. Masters, however, is rarely wrong in a determination of this kind.
