On the grounds of the Misses Drexel, at Torres-dale, Pa., there flowered for the first time the above-named tree, in the month of June last. I do not remember reading any account of its flowering elsewhere in this country as yet, though it may have done so, as it has been introduced for some years. The specimen referred to is about 12 feet high, in bush form, and at the time referred to was full of flowers. The flowers are small, yellowish white, numerous, and produced in cymes, and may be said to be hawthorn scented.
The large, shining green leaves are quite attractive; and the character of the whole tree so unlike anything commonly planted, that it is truly a valuable addition to our list of hardy trees.
