According to Helbing1), the seeds of Xanthoxylum Hamilton-ianum, Wall. (Fagara Hamiltoniana [Wall.], Engl.)2) yielded 3,84 to 5 p.c. of a volatile oil with a specific gravity of 0,840.
It is colorless and has a pleasant persistent odor reminding of that of a mixture of geranium and bergamot oils.
