Calx Chlorata. Chlorinated Lime. A compound resulting from the action of Chlorine upon Calcium Hydrate, and containing not less than 35 per cent. of available Chlorine. Synonym. - Bleaching powder. It may be regarded either as a compound of Calcium Hypochlorite and Chloride, or as one of Lime and Chlorine.
Pass Chlorine gas over slaked Lime. 2Ca(OH)2+2Cl2 - CaCl2O2+CaCl2+2H2O.
A white or grayish-white granular powder, exhaling the odor of Hypochlorous Acid, having a repulsive, saline taste, and becoming moist and gradually decomposing on exposure to air.
