Synonym. - Oil of Sweet Birch. A volatile oil obtained by distillation from the bark of Betula lenta Linne (Sweet Birch); (nat. ord. Betulaceae).
Northern United States. It is identical with Methyl Salicylate (Ch3c7h5o3=151.64), and nearly identical with Oil of Gaultheria.
It has the same properties and conforms to the same reactions and tests as Methyl Salicylate (see Methyl Salicylas; also Oleum Gaul-therise).
Dose, 1 to 5 m.; .06 to .30 c.c.
