"That is probably because they are big and hollow, with nothing inside. I have often heard it said of them that they were all water, but this is not true, for about 2 per cent of the pumpkin is sugar. It contains a good deal of waste material, which together with the sugar makes it a valuable food, in connection with grain of some kind for fattening animals."
