An extract from the common garden lettuce (lactuca). It is mildly narcotic and anodyne; promoting sleep like opium, but with much less power. The syrup of lactucarrium (named Auber-gier's syrup), is the most convenient preparation. Dose, one or two teaspoonfuls.
