The purpose of Sentence 8 in the preceding exercise is to identify the subject of thought, or to tell the name by which he is distinguished from other men. The name Mr. Allen is called a predicate attribute of identification. The purpose of Sentence 9 is to classify the subject of thought. It puts him into the class of lawyers. The word lawyer is a predicate attribute of classification.
Show in sentences that predicate attributes may express quality, condition, action, and place, and that they may classify or identify the subject of thought.
