The public halls should be well lighted, but not over-lighted, as the latter are costly to maintain. If too many outlets are provided, low candlepower lamps should be used. The method in which these lights are controlled will also effect economy, particularly the use of a double switch for each hall landing light which should properly have one electric light of high power and one of low power, the latter to be used whenever possible.
