The purpose of this index is to enable the bookkeeper to turn to the records of any piece of property though only the name of the vendor is known, and furnish a list of all real estate acquired. It is convenient to number each piece of property consecutively as it is acquired, and to give it some descriptive title, as the "Jones Property," the "Carsley Hill Property," or the name of a subdivision of a larger property, as "Lake Side." In any case, the name or names selected are entered on the property index in the column headed with the initial letter of that name, as indicated in Form 19. Each piece of property should be entered immediately on receipt of the deed. Such an index enables any employee, whether familiar with the books of account or not, to refer promptly to any particular property.
