Aelia Capitolina, a name given to Jerusalem by the emperor Hadrian (Aelius Hadri-anus), who. after a rebellion of the Jews in his reign, drove them from the destroyed city and its environs, and repeopled it with Roman colonists. It went by this title until the time of the Christian emperors.
