Alajuela, a city of Costa Rica, Central America, 14 m. N. W. of San Jose, the capital; pop., including suburbs, about 10,000. It is a place of considerable commercial importance, and is connected with the port of Puntas Arenas, on the gulf of Nicoya, by an excellent mule road.
