Louis Pierre Anqietil, a French historian, brother of Anquetil-Duperron, born in Paris, Feb. 21, 1723, died Sept. 0, 1808. He was an ecclesiastic, and published a history of Rheims (1750), a history of France (14 vols. 12mo, 1805), historical monographs on the times of Henry IV., Louis XIII., and Louis XIV., and a Precis de l'histoire universelle (9 vols. 12mo, 1797; 12 vols., 1801 and 1807), part of which was composed in prison during the reign of terror. His Motifs des guerres et des traites de paix de la France (1798) is praised for its evidences of profound knowledge of diplomacy and its sound judgment.
