Rhijnvis Feith, a Dutch poet, born at Zwolle, Feb. 7, 1753, died there, Feb. 8, 1824. He completed his studies at Leyden in 1770, when he returned to his native town, where he spent the rest of his life in literary pursuits, holding at the same time an office in connection with the admiralty and that of burgomaster. His best lyrical productions are his Oden en gedichten (4 vols., Amsterdam, 1796- 1810). One of his finest tragedies is Ines de Castro (1793), and his most finished prose writings are Brieven over verscheiden onderuer-pen.(Q vols., 1784-'94). A complete edition of his works was published soon after his death (11 vols., Rotterdam, 1824).
