Seric (Ser-Ik'). [From Latin seric, whence comes our word "silk."] The Seres were an Asiatic people from whom the ancient Greeks and Romans got their first silk. The name seres in old historical records is used vaguely, but their land is generally understood to be China in its more northern aspect. [See Silk]
