Masks. Poppaca, the wife of Nero, is said to have invented the mask to guard her complexion from the sun: But theatrical masks were in use among the Greeks and Romans. Modern masks, mull's, fans, and false hair for women, were devised by the loose females of Italy, and brought to England from France in l572.
