[L. adulteratio, corruption.] The mixing of foreign substances with articles of food and drugs, of water with milk, etc., for the purpose of defrauding customers. This is a very common practice, and often renders drugs useless and food injurious, if not poisonous. Many laws have been passed to check it, but not with full effect.
