An acid which is found in lemon juice, and which also occurs along with tartaric and malic acids in many other fruits-such as oranges, cherries, currants, garden rhubarb, etc. It is prepared from lemon or lime juice. It crystallizes in large colorless crystals, which dissolve freely in water. When dissolved in syrup it is kept for use in the manufacture of lemonade. It is used by calico-printers, and in the dyeing of silk.
