An insect with a large head and great eyes, and a white, scarlet, blue, and green long sharp body, and four strong gossamer-like wings. It preys on flies, gnats, mosquitoes, and butterflies. It lives mostly about water, and lays its eggs in the water, in which the larvae are hatched. The pupas are not inactive, as in many insects, but are voracious insect-eaters.
