[Fr.] A game-bird that lives among heather on hills. It inhabits Europe, Asia; and North America. It has a plump body, strong, well feathered legs, and mottled plumage. Among the varieties are the red grouse, the hazel grouse, the ruffed grouse, the pine grouse, and the spruce partridge.
