A small rodent animal from South America, somewhat like a pig, but also like a rabbit. It has short glossy fur, dark brown or white, with black, white, or yellow patches, or tortoise-shell colors. It feeds on vegetables, especially parsley and carrot tops. It is also called cavy, (L. Cavia.)
