(Medusce.) Soft-bodied ocean animals, which form a disk of an umbrella shape, with a mouth in its centre, opening downwards, and long tentacles surrounding the mouth or depending from the margin of the disk. They have stinging powers, and move by opening and shutting the umbrella disk. Their flesh resembles jelly, some of them being small and transparent, others quite large.
